The old way of marketing was by promoting a product and selling at your customer.
Billboards, TV ads, magazine and print ads, radio ads… all of these were used to try and convince people that your product was the best solution for them.
This no longer works. People aren’t paying attention any more.
Instead of studying TV commercials we turn to Amazon reviews or ask our friends what they recommend.
When we have a problem we go to google and find a solution.
There has been a huge paradigm shift.
Gone are the days of trying to convince people that you are the best solution for them.
Now you must learn to attract customers to you.
Start a blog. Write how-to guides. Post all of your artwork and your “secrets” on social media. Make videos showing the behind-the-scenes of your process. Show off your expertise.
Provide lots of value up front so that people can get to know you and your brand.
Once they know you, like you, and trust you then it’s time to ask them to buy.
This is as simple as telling people you are looking for freelance work, or writing an Instagram post letting people know they can buy prints of your artwork on your website.
I like to look at it like this… if you serve your audience well then they will serve you.
Keep it simple, and always look for opportunities to add value to your audience. If you give your audience good advice that makes a difference in their life, then they will keep coming back to you for more insight.
